Fay, Fay GO AWAY!

I'm pleased to announce we survived our first Tropical Storm of 2008! TS Fay is now gone and I don't think I've ever been so happy to see the sun. After 5 days of rain and clouds and wind - UGH! Not to mention I think we were all stir crazy from being cooped up.
The worst part was when I was watching TV and they said that there was a tornado going over our area. It was actually in the river as a waterspout- which the river is the next street over! All I could do was hold Jett and listen with every fiber of my being for the "roaring sound" which would send me running into the bathroom tub. It was a little freaky!
Fortunately, our biggest damage was that the top of my plumeria tree was torn completely off. We filled 2 trash cans with leaf and limb debris and still have a huge pile left. We made a trip to Home Depot yesterday and saw several trees in the plaza that were blown over. We also saw someone's fence that had been blown down. Other than that- just a lot of tree limbs and A LOT of water. We had standing pools in our backyard because there was just nowhere for it to go. We still have tons of water in our driveway. I shudder to think how bad the mosquitos are going to be!
On one of our boring indoor days I spiced things up by taking some photos of the monkey. Rainy days make for great photo lighting!
Well, guess I spoke too soon... The rain just started again. (sigh)

lots of things
Well first off let me just say- I am so glad that hurricane season 2008 is here.
(insert sound of crickets chirping)
When I went to sleep last night I was thinking that Tropical Storm Fay was no biggee. I woke up this morning to a new forecast that has Fay all around us and right over us. The worst part? Looks like she might head out over water and intensify before she comes to visit-
we live between the 2AM Thurs. and 2 AM Fri. markers. so, i'm getting ready to head out and stock up on hurricane supplies and stuff for the generator. let's hope this ends up being a practice run.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
Please excuse the virtual mess. LanierStar.com (as well as lanierstarphotography.com and kristenmorganphotography.com) is going to be under construction during the next week. There may be times where my site is down, but the blog should remain up at all times. Also, there may be a short time where email is down. Keep checking the blog for more info as I have it. Thanks for your patience as we go through some awesome changes!

Team Angel
From the Team Angel website:An extraordinary boy and his amazing family need your help.
On July 22, 2008, eight year-old Angel received a liver, bowel, and pancreas transplant. Although he and his family remain optimistic about what the future holds, they know that they have only just begun the exceptionally long road to recovery.
In addition to navigating the unknowns of his surgery and recuperation, Angel’s family faces many additional challenges. In order to be close to him during his hospitalization and in the many difficult months that will follow, Angel’s family has had to temporarily relocate two hours from their home. This relocation has affected not only his parents, but also his three year-old brother, who misses his sword-fighting partner desperately. To top it off, Angel’s mother is due to give birth on August 13, 2008, to his long-awaited baby sister, and now needs to do so with a new doctor at a new hospital some two hours away from home (ironically, down the hall from her recovering son).
There is nothing Angel’s family would not do to help him get well, but the reality is that the costs surrounding Angel’s surgery and his family’s subsequent relocation – including housing, gas, food, child care, and additional bills – are staggeringly high… and they simply cannot do it alone.
Even superheroes sometimes need a little help.
Join Team Angel today.
For several years I have had a contact on flickr named sarahjean. I was first attracted to her photostream because of her gorgeous photography. As I explored her stream further I discovered a wonderful story of how she & her husband had adopted a special needs child named Angel and from then on continued to follow the story of their family with their second son named Hudson.
Please visit the Team Angel website by clicking HERE. Anything you might be able to do to help this family is greatly appreciated!
10% of August's total sales will be donated to this family. Now is a great time to purchase extra prints from your last session or book your holiday session. You'll help a great cause!

would you like FREE PHOTOS?!?
Of course you would!
I announced a few weeks back that I was chosen as a featured artist by Portfolisitez. They will be using my work in their next template design. I'd like to add a few fresh faces to my portfolio beforehand so there will be some neverbeforeseen work on the new site! :)
Do you know someone that could do modeling in one of these categories?
- maternity/newborn
- baby/child
- teen/senior
- couple/engagement
- wedding (must provide own dress)
Spread the word! Tell your family & friends!
